You may download Spybot S&D off of the www.download.com recommend or Click Here. Make sure you have no applications running in the background other than Internet Explorer so you can access the Internet.
There are two ways to download the program. Once you click on the Download Now link it will prompt you with and Active X box and you can choose to "Open" it from its location or "Save" it to a folder. We recommend “Open” so that way you won’t have any unnecessary files on your computer.
When the download is finished, the screen below will be the first prompt to appear. Please choose your language accordingly.
Once you have chosen your language, the following prompt will appear asking you to close all applications that you have open and then click on “NEXT”.
On the next prompt they are asking you review the license agreement and if you agree to it check off the “I accept license agreement”. Once you have read and accepted the license agreement click “Next”.
This prompt is telling you in what folders the program files will be stored. We recommend that you keep this to the default setting and click “NEXT”.
At the next prompt you can choose any options that you may require. Unless you need any of the other components we recommend installing with any but the default “Main Files”. Unless of course you need the “Icons for starting in blind user mode”. Once finished click “NEXT”.
If you want to create a “Start Menu Folder” with a name other than the default this is where you can change it. If you do not want a “Start Menu Folder”, click the “Don’t create a Start Menu Folder” on the bottom left hand corner of the prompt.
Here you can select “Desktop Icons” and “Quick Launch Icons” to place for convenient launching of Spybot, chose accordingly. Under the section “Permanent Protection” we recommend you leave these two options checked off as they are behind the scenes programs included with Spybot that monitor your system on a daily basis. The two options require minimum memory usage so you will not experience any type of crawl on your system. Once, your selections have been made click “NEXT”.
The following is the final prompt showing you which selections you made while you were going through the prompts. You can review your selections here and if everything is correct, click “INSTALL”.
Spybot S&D is now being installed onto your system.
Once it is completed the following prompt will appear. Leave both boxes checked as “Run SpybotSD.exe” will start the program and we can begin our deep scan for Spyware. The other option “Run TeaTimer.exe” should also be checked as Tea Timer is a registry-monitoring tool that will prevent malicious programs from attacking and modifying the registry.
