Once you have paid for and downloaded Spy Sweeper navigate to the directory that you have downloaded it in. Please note that you SHOULD NOT have any other spyware program installed on your computer at the time you are installing Spy Sweeper. If you must install a specific type of spyware program to rid a particular pest, be sure to ask us about it in our forum sections. You must go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove any programs that may conflict with Spy Sweeper.
Once you have navigated to the folder in which Spy Sweeper was downloaded double click on the file that was downloaded to start the installation of the program. Upon double-clicking the executable file (.exe) the first screen that will appear will look as follows. Please check your preferred language and click "OK".
The next screen will display the "Spy Sweeper Setup Wizard". It displays the version of Spy sweeper you are installing and recommends that you close all other applications before continuing. Please click "Next" to continue.
The next screen will ask you to enter the key code for Spy Sweeper. Upon purchasing the product you will be provided with a key code to be used here.
Upon entering the key code, you will be prompted with a screen to "check for new product and definition updates before proceeding with the installation." It is recommended that you click "Yes" to get the most up to date information. After clicking "Yes" it will quickly show a screen connecting to the internet to check for updates.
The next screen will display the "License Agreement" that you must agree to in order to proceed with the installation. Please take a minute to review it. Once done, click the "I Accept the Agreement" radial and then "Next" to continue with the installation.
Select Your Install Type - The next screen will provide two options to install; Typical and Custom. Typical will install the program with the options that are generic to all PC users, while custom gives you greater control over the installation folder and the following options:
- Run Spy Sweeper at Windows Startup; If Spy Sweeper is not running, you will not be protected by the many shield features
- Add a Shortcut on the Desktop
- Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu
- View Spy News When Available
- Enable Windows Messenger Shield: Enabling this shield will stop Windows Messenger Service from running.
Note: if you choose Typical Setup it will install with all of the above options checked on. If you feel that you do not want any of these options please choose Custom where you can edit this.

Ready to Install - Here you can review all of your settings and decide if you want to go back and change the Default location, Start Menu folder, and additional tasks. If everything is as needed, please click "Install" to continue the installation.
The next screen will be the program installing.
In the end, you will be greeted with the "Completing the Spy Sweeper Setup Wizard". You have 2 options towards the end here, the first check box give you the option to "Run Spy Sweeper Now" and "View Release Notes". We recommend you run Spy Sweeper now and have it check for any known problems or bugs. Spy Sweeper is also a great tool to run in Safe Mode. It picks up the majority of spyware and malicious programs that run on your machine in Safe Mode. Running Windows in regular mode will pick up almost all the problems, but removing them in Safe Mode is your best bet.
